NPFL: End Plateau United Unbeaten Run – Ologun Charges Sunshine Stars

Otunba Dele Ologun, the Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, on Wednesday 30th March, 2022 joined Sunshine Stars FC in an early morning training session of the club in Akure. The Commissioner who had a briefing with the players and coaching crew of the club urged them to end Plateau United FC’s unbeaten run in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Ologun made the charge while addressing players and management of the club at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure, ahead of their crucial encounter with Plateau United.

The Commissioner urged the players to put in their best as they are also marketing themselves, directly and indirectly.

The Commissioner said there will be continuous efforts to ensure better performance and to discover new talents at the grassroots.

“I want to challenge you, go there and do all your best to win that match. As you are playing for Sunshine Stars; you are playing for yourself too.”

“Super Eagles’ players started from somewhere, but today, they are doing well for themselves. Whatever support we can give, we will.” He added.

Otunba Ologun also assured that the bid for the rehabilitation of the stadium is in top gear and will end on Friday, while proper work will begin as soon as possible.

Also speaking, a member of the Interim Management Committee, Tunde Ogunja, urged the players to strive hard to achieve more successes this season.

Ogunja urged them to reciprocate the 2-0 defeat they suffered in the hands of Plateau United FC in the first stanza.

The Captain of the team, Abe Sunday appreciated Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN for ensuring prompt payment of their salary and match bonuses. He urged all stakeholders in the state to support the team to win more games in the second stanza of the league. He equally appreciated the Commissioner for the motivational and crucial visit for the task ahead. He assured that the club will emerge victorious and possibly win the league.

Sunshine Stars currently stands 8th on the league table and will begin the second stanza of the NPFL with a home match against Plateau United at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, on Sunday.

Plateau United FC enjoys unbeaten run in their 10 last matches in the first stanza of the season and currently stands in the 2nd position on the league table log.

Sunshine Stars FC is in high spirit as they continue their training after the engagement with the Commissioner.
