Tragedy struck in the Ifira Akoko community in Akoko South East Local Government Area of Ondo State on Friday evening when a man, identified as Omotayo Omoakin, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in the community.
According to a source, the 36-year-old man, who was said to be a herbalist in the community, was reportedly shot dead after receiving a telephone call in his house
The source said, “He (deceased) received a phone from an unknown caller. After receiving the call he went out of the house, the next thing we heard was a sound of a gunshot, the assailants shot at him. Shortly after he gave up the ghost.”
The source added that the men of the state police command immediately visited the scene and evacuated the corpse of the deceased to the General Hospital, Ifira Akoko, where he was deposited at the morgue of the hospital.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, Mr Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and said an investigation had begun
” We have commenced an investigation into the incident, we would arrest the perpetrators,” he stated.
Meanwhile, a traditional ruler in the community and Asiwaju of Ifira Akoko, Chief Boboye Ojomo, described the incident as shocking, saying “this is another period of mourning for the entire Ifira community.” He appealed to the security agents to do a thorough investigation that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.”
