The Ondo State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed that one person was abducted along Akure-Ado Ekiti Expressway at Ita Ogbolu town, the headquarters of the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State on Tuesday.

The State Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Femi Joseph, who identified the victim as Akinde Felix, said the incident happened while the victim was heading towards Akure from Ado Ekiti.

In a statement, the PPRO said the kidnapping took place some meters away from the National Youths Service Corps farm in Ita Ogbolu town but noted that no corps members was abducted.

He said, “A space bus Toyota Previa vehicle was driven by one Akinde Felix from Ikere Ekiti en route Akure yesterday (Tuesday). He was the only one inside. Around 4:00 a.m. at a spot close to the NYSC farm at Ita Ogbolu, the vehicle was blocked by suspected hoodlums while the driver, who was the only occupant was whisked away.

“The command has since begun investigation and intensifying efforts to not only rescue the victim but to also arrest the perpetrators.

However, a source said eight people were abducted in the bus at Ita Ogbolu saying the victims were going to Akure from Ado Ekiti on Tuesday morning.

The identities of the victims were not confirmed as of the time of this report and they had been whisked away to an unknown destination in the forest.

“The matter was reported at the Ita Ogbolu Police Division, but nobody knows their whereabouts till now”, the source stated.

Meanwhile, the NYSC in the state has debunked the report that a corps member was among the kidnapped victims, saying the report was untrue.

In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the corps in the state, Mr. Bankole Simon on Wednesday, the corps urged the parents of the corps members serving in the state not to panic.

The statement read, ” The news is not only false but baseless and unfounded. The management through the established procedure can authoritatively tell the general public especially the parents and guardians not to panic as all corps members serving in all the Local Government Areas in the state or those who are currently in camp at Ikare-Akoko are safe, sound and healthy.

“The Management of NYSC has put in place necessary machinery and effective measure in place to safeguard at all times the lives and properties of members of the service corps.”
