Former Super Eagles captain, Austin Okocha, has faulted striker Odion Ighalo for Nigeria’s 2-1 loss to Argentina which saw the Africans crashed out in the group stage of the ongoing Russia 2018 World Cup.
Okocha, in his post-match analysis, expressed disappointment that the striker wasted a few chances that would have made the game safe for Gernot Rohr’s side.
The former Watford striker wasted the best chance of the game when at 1-1, Marcos Rojo, who scored the back-breaking winner in the 85th minute, in his attempt to make a clearance had the ball came off his hand and fell kindly for Ighalo, who wastefully shot wide in front of goal.
“It was really sad the way they lost and that brings me back to Ighalo’s miss. He should have taken one of the chances he had,” the former PSG midfielder said.
Okocha credited Argentina for rising to the challenge adding that it would have been an upset if Nigeria had pulled through.
“They were determined to win the game and they used their experience,” he said.
